1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using School Chat ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

School Chat is an AI-powered academic advisor that connects to your Canvas LMS account to provide personalized guidance about your courses, assignments, grades, and academic goals. The Service is not affiliated with or endorsed by any educational institution.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use School Chat. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's consent to use the Service.

4. Your Account

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
  • You are responsible for all activity under your account.
  • You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
  • You must not share your account credentials with others.

5. Canvas Integration

  • You authorize School Chat to access your Canvas LMS data using the Personal Access Token you provide.
  • You are responsible for generating and managing your Canvas token.
  • You may disconnect your Canvas integration at any time via Settings.
  • School Chat is not responsible for any changes to your Canvas account or data.

6. AI Advisor Limitations

School Chat is an AI tool, not a replacement for human academic advisors.

  • AI responses may contain errors or inaccuracies. Always verify important information with your institution.
  • School Chat does not complete assignments, submit work, or take actions on your behalf in Canvas.
  • For official degree audits, enrollment decisions, or institutional policies, consult your school's academic advising office.
  • School Chat is not liable for academic decisions made based on AI advice.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to generate content for academic dishonesty (e.g., submitting AI-generated work as your own).
  • Attempt to abuse, exploit, or circumvent rate limits or usage restrictions.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
  • Use automated tools to access the Service (bots, scrapers, etc.).

8. Usage Limits

Free accounts are limited to 20 messages per day. We reserve the right to modify usage limits at any time. Paid plans (when available) will have their own limits as described at the time of purchase.

9. Data & Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon deletion, all your data is permanently removed.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AI RESPONSES WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SCHOOL CHAT SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ACADEMIC CONSEQUENCES RESULTING FROM RELIANCE ON AI-GENERATED ADVICE.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We will notify users of material changes via email or in-app notification.
